Tinbasher Clamp - the bits

Here are the parts that go to make up the Tinbasher clamps - 3 in all plus welding and polishing. Shows how much time, effort and skill is needed.

The bar clamp was made by cutting a few strips from the 75mm x 16mm bar in a power saw then tack welding them together on the ends to enable him to drill the hole which he did on the pedestal drill. The top plate was cut to basic shape on a bandsaw then filed by hand. Richard cut the thick bits down a bit on the bandsaw and shaped them on a sanding belt , welded them together and ground off the weld on the belt as well. A bit more hand work than you may have thought and most of it done at lunch time at work , the final smooth finish was done at his home  - mostly with emery paper and a small high speed grinder. A real unselfish labour of love for other VX800 owners.

Just watch in the next page how those ill fitting clamps have been  shaped to match  the top clamp bar!!
